ABA
Provider Trainings: Dates & Details
Applied
Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientifically-based methodology and NYS
Department of Health recommended approach for teaching children with
Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Research states that many
ABA techniques are effective for building skills of all kinds in children
with autism and related disorders. Additionally, ABA methods are useful
for helping individuals and families manage some of the difficult behaviors
that may accompany autism, without the side effects of drugs or other
treatments.
The
following is a list of ABA Trainings offered by RCDS:
RCDS’ INTRODUCTORY ABA COURSE
This seminar provides a comprehensive overview on Autism Spectrum Disorders
including the diagnostic criteria, guiding philosophy of ABA and common
symptoms associated with the disorder. Concepts such as reinforcement,
prompting, data collection and natural environment teaching are addressed
along with the role of the home-based ABA teacher and related service
providers.
RCDS’
INTERMEDIATE ABA COURSE
This seminar reviews the important key terminology within ABA as well
as the essential elements within Discrete Trial Teaching, data collection,
data sheets, graphing and proper utilization of the data book. How to
assess and probe skills is addressed along with a review of activity
schedules. Within this course, participants practice running trials
and taking data.
RCDS’
ADVANCED ABA COURSE
This seminar further explores the importance of the data book and graphing.
A more in-depth discussion on skill probing, trial intervals, data collection
and RCDS data sheets is addressed along with parent training and how
to effectively structure each session.

These seminars are open to certified Special Educators and licensed related
service providers and are free to our active providers.
Providers who are registered but not actively serving for RCDS can attend
a seminar for a fee of $100 per course which will be
refunded once they have served for the agency for 90 days. Our ABA Director
will collaborate with providers and assess which seminars are most appropriate
for each provider to attend based on their prior experience, education
and previous training.
ABA trainings are offered in both our Suffern & Queens Offices. Seating is
limited and reservations are required one week prior to each training date.
